Welcome to St John Of Beverley  Catholic Primary School, part of the St Margaret Clitherow Catholic Academy Trust

St John of Beverley Catholic Primary School is rated by OFSTED and by the Diocese of Middlesbrough as a good school. We recognise, through worship, through the liturgy and all aspects of learning and teaching, that every member of the school brings their own special gifts and talents to our school family. We encourage children to use these to take ownership of their learning and to develop to their full potential.

Our school mission statement centres on our aim of ensuring that ‘everyone at St John of Beverley School is part of God’s family. We share, play and learn together and try to be the best we can be.’ This is lived out every day, by every member of the school family. It is our duty and indeed our privilege to ensure that every person (child or adult) who comes into our school is given the opportunity and the encouragement to fulfil their potential in every possible way.   We love to share in the talents our school members have already and to give them the chance to discover new ones, whether these be academic, sporting, musical or artistic. As a smaller than average school, every child is known and highly regarded as a vital member of the organisation. ‘We care, share, learn and respect in every way possible. It’s like we are one big family’ (Child X)

Systems set up in school to ensure that this happens include the ‘Buddy’ system and our School Houses, but this could not be achieved without having every member of staff on board as role models for children. It is clear to all who enter that we live and breathe our values in order to make a difference. Every parent who comes to look around our school comments on the welcoming atmosphere we have created, and the fact that everyone within our community knows and cares for each other

St John of Beverley School is a real ‘hidden gem’. Because of it’s location and the beautiful school grounds, surrounded by evergreen hedges, it is very easy to miss as it is nestled into it’s surroundings. However, once you set foot inside our gates, you will experience what one prospective parent described as ‘an oasis’, an atmosphere which we strive to maintain.

In 2020, St John of Beverley Primary was the top rated primary school in the East Riding of Yorkshire.   Our SATS results from 2019 place us in the top 1% for attainment in the country (137 / 20626) with top rankings for ‘attainment for all’ and ‘progress’.

We believe in ensuring that our children have the essential grounding to achieve well academically, but we strive to do this whilst ensuring the provision of a broad, balanced and fun-filled curriculum which does not simply teach to the test. We believe passionately in creating a curriculum that is exciting and engaging for all learners. We strive to tailor what we teach to the interests and learning styles of the individual child, consequently helping them to excel in all areas of the curriculum and in the wider life of the school and community.

Our children are provided with a range of opportunities to develop existing skills and indeed to learn new ones. An example of our dedication to this is the fact that our school earned the Platinum level School Games Mark in 2019-2020, a level that can only be achieved by ensuring the highest commitment to sport at all levels throughout the school.
